Honeywell launches first ever CCTV camera portfolio made in India

In a significant move that aligns with India’s push for self-reliance, technology giant Honeywell has announced the debut of its 50 Series line of CCTV products. This launch is a landmark for the company, as it represents its first portfolio of security cameras to be fully designed, developed, and produced within India. The move comes at a time when there’s an increasing demand for domestically manufactured, high-grade security equipment, especially for critical infrastructure.

The new camera line has received a Class 1 certification, the highest level of recognition under the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ public procurement policy. This certification underscores Honeywell’s deep commitment to local manufacturing and adds significant value to India’s strategic industrial goals.

A Commitment to ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’

The development of the 50 Series is a direct response to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, a government-led vision aimed at making India a self-reliant nation. What makes this product even more remarkable is that the entire process—right from the initial concept to the final design—was carried out at Honeywell’s global development center in Bengaluru. This not only highlights India’s growing capabilities in engineering and design but also reflects the strong local talent pool available.

To bring the product to market, Honeywell formed a strategic manufacturing collaboration with VVDN Technologies, a leading Indian Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider. VVDN also served as the hardware design partner. This collaboration showcases the power of local partnerships in creating high-quality products.

“This launch reflects our commitment to shaping the future of secure and intelligent security solutions tailored for India,” said Vimal Kapur, Honeywell CEO and Chairman. “It also reinforces our commitment to the India growth story and is a demonstration of our deep local engineering capabilities and strong local partnerships.”

In recognition of the launch, Kapur, alongside senior Honeywell leaders and VVDN’s Founder and President, Vivek Bansal, met with Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Honourable Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Railways, and I&B.

“The Indian economy is growing consistently. We are committed to establishing India as a ‘product nation’,” stated Shri Vaishnaw. “These ‘Made in India’ CCTVs are a good step in that direction. We encourage the industry to Design in India, Make in India and Make for the World.”

Advanced Features for Critical Infrastructure

The Honeywell 50 Series isn’t just about local production—it comes packed with a set of advanced features designed specifically to meet the needs of India’s security landscape. A major focus is on bolstering security for critical infrastructure across various sectors.

Key areas set to benefit from these cameras include:

  • Government facilities
  • Healthcare institutions
  • Educational campuses
  • Transportation networks (airports, railways)
  • Commercial buildings
  • Large-scale real estate projects

These cameras are built not just to record, but to proactively detect threats in real-time. Thanks to their intelligent video analytics, they can automatically identify and flag potential security incidents before they escalate.

Technical Specifications:

  • Resolution: The portfolio includes models with 3MP and 5MP resolutions, offering crisp and detailed footage.
  • Form Factors: Available in both dome and bullet designs to suit different installation needs.
  • Image Stability: A gyro sensor-based image stabilization system ensures clear video capture even in environments with vibrations or movement—ideal for transport and industrial applications.

Addressing the Cybersecurity Challenge

One of the standout features of the 50 Series is its robust cybersecurity measures. With the growing reliance on digital systems, network-connected devices like CCTV cameras are often seen as potential vulnerabilities. Honeywell has ensured that these cameras are fortified against cyber threats, safeguarding the integrity of the surveillance system and the data it collects. This is particularly critical for government and enterprise clients dealing with sensitive information and essential services.

The decision to design and manufacture the cameras locally also helps address concerns around supply chain security and data privacy—issues that often arise with foreign-manufactured electronics. By controlling the design and production process within India, Honeywell is able to offer a much higher level of assurance to its clients.

Strengthening Honeywell’s Security Portfolio

This launch marks another important milestone in Honeywell’s efforts to expand its presence as a comprehensive provider of security solutions in the region. It builds on the company’s 2024 acquisition of Carrier’s Global Access Solutions business, which included the well-regarded LenelS2 brand. This acquisition significantly expanded Honeywell’s capabilities in advanced physical security, adding access control and mobile credentialing to its portfolio.

With the introduction of the ‘Made in India’ 50 Series CCTV cameras, Honeywell can now offer a more integrated and complete security infrastructure to clients across all sectors. Whether it’s a hospital, government office, or large corporation, Honeywell can provide a unified security solution, including access control, video surveillance, and other key components. This holistic approach ensures better system communication and performance, making Honeywell the preferred Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for a wide range of electronic security needs.

The 50 Series cameras, therefore, not only meet the growing demand for local manufacturing but also serve as a core element of Honeywell’s broader strategy to dominate the security space in India and beyond.
