Google’s latest update to its operating system, the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3, introduces a significant change for Pixel device users. The update primarily focuses on enhancing the keyboard usability by altering the language switch feature.

Improved Keyboard Interface

In the previous Android 15 QPR1 release, Google implemented a globe icon in the lower-right corner of the keyboard. This icon allowed users to switch languages or access Google Voice Typing by tapping. However, this feature proved to be cumbersome for users who utilize Gboard with only one set language. The globe icon was frequently pressed by mistake, especially when attempting to hit the enter key, leading to unintentional language menu pop-ups.

Responding to user feedback since December, Google has made a user-friendly adjustment in the latest Beta 3 release. Now, the globe icon will not display if only one keyboard language is set, simplifying the typing experience. This update removes unnecessary clutter from the keyboard interface, making it more efficient, particularly for users who do not switch languages frequently.

Continued Support for Multiple Languages

For users who manage multiple languages, the globe icon remains an integral part of the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3. It functions seamlessly, allowing quick switching with a simple tap and providing access to additional options through a long press. This ensures that the functionality remains intact for users who benefit from multi-language support.

Stability and Future Updates

The Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3 is reported to be stable and is paving the way for the final stable release scheduled for March. This will coincide with the next Pixel (Feature) Drop. Additionally, users can expect one last patch for QPR1 in February, which will address any remaining issues before the final transition to QPR2.
